T20 World Cup 2024: After India's top-notch performance against Australia in T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan's former cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq has made serious allegations against Rohit Sharma and his team. India won comfortably against Australia and secured their semi-final spot on Monday. Rohit Sharma's explosive 92 helped India in 26-run victory. Meanwhile, Pakistan faced defeat against India. Rubbing salt to the wound, the USA handed 5 5-run defeat in the Super Over, which eliminated Pakistan from the T20 World Cup.

Inzamam-ul-Haq put India bowlers under scrutiny

After this conundrum, Inzamam-ul-Haq has alleged India's star bowler Arshdeep Singh of ball tampering. The former Pakistan skipper alleged that something was done to the ball after India's left-hand pacer was generating reverse-swing against Australia. Notably, Arshdeep dismissed three batters in the do-or-die clash, which forced Australia to eliminate. In his first over, he dismissed David Warner in the very first over. The other two wickets came in the 18th over by dismissing  Matthew Wade and Tim David.

Arshdeep's last two overs seemed problematic for Inzamam. In a video that is going viral on social media, he urged Umpires to keep their eyes open.

What has Inzamam-ul-Haq said?

Speaking on the 'World Cup Hungama' show on Pakistan's 24 News channel, the former cricketer said, "You can't overlook that when Arshdeep Singh was bowling the 15th over, the ball was already reverse-swinging. Isn't it a bit early for the new ball to start reversing? It was prepared to reverse by the 12th-13th over. The umpires need to stay vigilant. We know a thing or two about reverse swing, so if Arshdeep Singh managed to get the ball to reverse swing, some work must have been done on it."

Previous incidents of ball tampering

This is not the first instance that the Indian team or its players have faced ball-tampering accusations. In 2001, Indian cricket was shaken when Sachin Tendulkar was suspended for a match by referee Mike Denness after cameras caught him scuffing the ball's seam during a Test match against South Africa in Port Elizabeth. Similarly, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi was banned for two T20Is for ball-tampering; he was caught on camera biting the ball during a 2010 ODI against Australia at the WACA.

Australian ball-tampering scandal

However, the most notorious incident remains the 2018 sandpaper gate scandal. Australian cricketers Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft faced severe punishments for using sandpaper on the ball during the Cape Town Test against South Africa.
