India’s commanding victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final failed to reclaim the number one spot in the latest ICC One Day International (ODI) rankings.

Despite their record-breaking triumph over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final, accomplished in just over 6.1 overs, India’s ascent to the top of the rankings was downgraded by their earlier loss to Bangladesh prior to the final clash in the Asia Cup. Even though both India and Pakistan are tied with 115 points each.

However, the forthcoming three-match ODI series against Australia will offer India a golden opportunity to seize the top position if they manage to secure victory in the home series, starting on September 22.

Indeed, a triumph in the opening ODI would fire India past Pakistan, propelling them to the coveted No. 1 ranking in all three formats of the game.

Rohit Sharma’s team is riding high on their impressive Asia Cup victory, and their quest for the No. 1 ranking could be on the cards as soon as next Friday if they manage to defeat Australia in the inaugural ODI in Mohali.
