The Indian squash team haded defeat to the defending champions Malaysia 2-0 to reach the final of the men’s squash event after the seasoned Saurav Ghosal and Abhay Singh registered wins at the Asian Games here on Friday. India will lock horns in a gold medal clash with Pakistan, against whom they lost in the pool stage, and will be eager to take revenge.

Abhay Singh started the game for India on a positive note, securing a 3-1 (11-3, 12-10, 9-11, 11-6) victory over Muhammad Addeen Idrakie Bin Bahtiar in the opening game. Abhay took 57 minutes to beat the challenge of Bin Bahtiar.

While experienced Saurav Ghosal then got the better of Eain Yow NG with the scoreline of 3-1 (11-8, 11-6, 12-10, 11-3) in 69 minutes to wrap up the semifinal match.

Indian player, Mahesh Mangaonkar was not required to play the third match against Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal since India was through the game. In the 18th edition of the Asian Games, the Indian men had settled for the bronze medal in Indonesia.

Indian women’s team finish with bronze

Meanwhile, the Indian women’s squash team bagged the bronze medal after being handed defeats to Hong Kong in the semifinals. The trio of experienced Joshna Chinappa, Anahat Singh, and Tanvi Khanna went down 1-2 to Hong Kong.

Joshna Chinappa was the only Indian who won the match for India as she defeated world No. 24 Tze Lok Ho with a scoreline of 3-2 (7-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-6, 11-8). On the other hand, Tanvi Khanna went down by (3-0) to Sin Yuk Chan in the opening match.

The 15-year-old Anahat Singh tried her best against a high-ranked and experienced opponent Lee Ka Yi but she also went down the scoreline of (0-3) 8-11, 7-11, 10-12.

PM Modi lauds Squash women’s team

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi congratulated Joshna Chinappa, Anahat Singh, and Tanvi Khanna on winning the bronze medal in women’s squash in the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou on Friday.

PM Modi posted on the microblogging site, X(formerly known as Twitter), “Delighted that our Squash Women’s Team has won the Bronze Medal in Asian Games. I congratulate Joshna Chinappa, Anahat Singh, and Tanvi for their efforts. I also wish them the very best for their future endeavors.”
