India vs Australia: The fourth T20I encounter of India vs Australia is to be played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Stadium in Raipur on Friday. As the match is to be played in a few hours for the series decider clash, there is no electricity in a substantial part of the stadium.

According to NDTV reports, the issue stems from an electricity bill which hasn't been paid in 2009. The stadium has an outstanding bill of ₹3.16 crore which led to the disconnection of power supply to the stadium, five years ago. Following the incident a temporary electrical connection is in place which has the capacity to cover the spectator's gallery and boxes.

Generators to power floodlights

The reports claimed that the stadium authorities are planning to use generators to power the floodlights for the game.

The Raipur Rural Circle in-charge, Ashok Khandelwal claimed that the Cricket Association Secretary applied to increase the capacity of the temporary power supply. However, the authorities got the approval for upgrading to a 1,000 KV power supply, implementation remains pending.

Why power supply was disrupted?

The supply of electricity in the stadium is not new as back in 2018, participants of a half-marathon also were caught off guard by the interruption in electricity which revealed that the stadium has had electricity dues pending since 2009.

Authorities uncertain about dues

The media coordinator of Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS), Tarunesh Singh Parihar expressed concerns regarding hosting the international matches under these circumstances. He said, "As far as the stadium lights are concerned, I don't know how much the bill is outstanding but a temporary connection has been taken in the name of CSCS."
