Indian tennis squad had a mixed outing in the Asian Games on September 25. Rohan Bopanna was involved in two tennis events, in men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

The result was much better in the second outing of Bopanna as the second-ranked pair of Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale advanced to the pre-quarterfinals after defeating Uzbekistan’s Akgul Amanmuradova and Maksim Shin.

Earlier, in men’s doubles, the top-ranked duo of Rohan Bopanna and Yuki Bhambri were eliminated by the event after suffering a defeat in straight sets of 6-2, 3-6, 6-10, to Uzbekistan’s Sergey Fomin and Khumoyun Sultanov.

Quick bounceback after loss

However, Bopanna bounced back quickly from the setback against Uzbekistan’s duo, showcasing his resilience and skill in his match with Rohal Bhosale. The pair managed a decisive win of 6-2, 6-4 against Uzbekistan’s opponents, securing their place in the next round of the event. Their teamwork on the court was exceptionally good, with both tennis players complementing each other’s strengths and effectively countering their opponents’ plans.

The win was particularly soothing after the unexpected exit of the top-ranked Indian men’s doubles team earlier in the day.

Positive results in other games

Meanwhile, Indian women’s doubles pair Rutuja Bhosale and Karman Thandi won comfortably against Kazakhstan’s Zhanel Rustemova and Aruzhan Sagandykova in the first round of the Asian Games.

In another game, the second-ranked pair of Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan defeated the Indonesian pair of Anthony and Agung Susanto in straight sets. The match lasted over one hour as the duo secured the win against their men’s doubles opponents in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
