New Delhi: In a historic moment for Indian cricket, Team India has etched its name in the annals of ODI World Cup history by becoming the first-ever team to emerge unbeaten in the round-robin format, securing a phenomenal nine consecutive wins. The latest triumph unfolded as India trounced the Netherlands by a staggering 160 runs in a thrilling encounter in Bengaluru.

With the victory over the Netherlands, Team India achieved an unparalleled feat with nine consecutive wins, making them the undefeated champions of the ODI World Cup 2023 round-robin stage. This remarkable accomplishment surpasses the achievements of past cricket powerhouses like Sri Lanka in 1996 and Australia in 2003, both falling short with eight victories.

Invincible display of dominance

Throughout the tournament, Team India showcased sheer dominance and invincibility. Having entered the World Cup as Asian champions earlier in the year, the team's stellar performance has left cricket enthusiasts in awe. The upcoming semi-final clash against New Zealand in Mumbai on November 15 is eagerly awaited, with Indian fans hopeful for a spot in the grand final.

In the last group stage encounter against the Netherlands, Indian batsmen stole the show, creating World Cup history. Each of the five batters scored fifty or more runs, contributing to a record-breaking total of 410 runs in 50 overs. The outstanding batting performance set the stage for the bowlers to defend a substantial target.

Bowlers shine bright

The Indian bowling unit, led by key players like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, demonstrated their prowess by collectively bagging two wickets each. As victory seemed inevitable for India, skipper Rohit Sharma showcased strategic brilliance by allowing the batters to roll their arms over. Even Virat Kohli, taking up the ball, not only practiced but also claimed the crucial wicket of Dutch skipper Scott Edwards. Rohit himself sealed the deal by taking the final wicket of the group stage.

Most ODI Wins in a Calendar Year

Team India's extraordinary performance in 2023 has not only secured an unbeaten streak but also propelled them to a record-equalling position. With 24 ODI wins in the current year, India has matched its own record set in 1998. The team's stellar run is drawing comparisons to the exclusive club of West Indies (1975, 1979) and Australia (2003, 2007), the only teams to win the ODI World Cup while staying undefeated throughout the tournament.

Team India's cricketing saga in the ODI World Cup 2023 has become a narrative of dominance, resilience, and unparalleled achievements. The cricketing world awaits the unfolding drama as India marches towards potential glory in the semi-finals.
