IND vs SA: India star batter KL Rahul became the second Indian wicketkeeper batter to hammer a ton on South African turf. Rahul achieved this milestone during India’s first Test against the Protese men at Centurion on Wednesday. Earlier, Rishabh Pant was the only wicketkeeper batter to achieve this feat.

Rahul reached his century mark with a maximum over mid-wicket against South African speedster Gerald Coetzee.

Lone warrior tackles bowling onslaught

The 31-year-old batter defied a challenging pitch and South Africa's potent bowling attack to reach his superb ton. His innings was a masterclass in resilience, as it came in a crucial situation. His innings lifted India from 121/6 to a respectable total of 245. Nandre Burger claimed his wicket. The right-handed batter finished with 101 off 137 deliveries including 14 fours and four maximums during his knock.

Rahul stitched valuable partnerships with Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj while farming the majority of the strike. The pair of Kl Rahul and Shardul Thakur added 43 runs off 68 deliveries for the seventh wicket while Rahul - Siraj added 47 off 64 deliveries for the ninth wicket.

Before this one, Rahul scored his first century in 2021 against the same opponent in the same venue. Having crossed the three-figure twice in South Africa, KL Rahul became the first visiting batter to score multiple hundreds at the venue.

Rishabh Pant had achieved the feat early last year when he scored a blitzzing hundred against South Africa in Cape Town.
