IND vs SA: South Africa ended day two of the second Test in a strong position despite a late fightback from the visitors at SuperSport Park, Centurion on Wednesday. KL Rahul's second ton in Centurion and Mohammed Siraj's early wicket helped India take control, but Shardul Thakur and debutant Prasidh Krishna's inconsistent bowling allowed South Africa back into the game. Siraj dismissed Aiden Markram for a mere five. On the other hand,  ace pacer Bumrah did strike twice in his second spell but once again, India failed to create pressure for the new batter.

Playing his farewell series, Dean Elgar scored his 14th Test century and along with David Bedingham, who scored fifty on debut, stitched a century partnership post tea. The pair added 131 before Siraj dismissed Bedingham on 56.

The start of play was delayed by 25 minutes due to steady drizzle, but KL Rahul made the most of it, reaching a sensational century with a six. The star batter became the second wicketkeeper-batsman after Rishabh Pant to score a century on South African soil. India were eventually bowled out for 245.

Elgar scores elegant century

Elgar and Tony De Zorzi saw South Africa through to Lunch, with the hosts on 49/1 in 16 overs. De Zorzi and Elgar then played with intent against Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur in the second session. Elgar eventually raced past his half-century, but the partnership was ended by Jasprit Bumrah who dismissed De Zorzi for 28 off 62. Bumrah then dismissed Keegan Petersen immediately afterwards, but debutant David Bedingham looked at home from the start.

Elgar eventually reached his century while Bedingham scored at will, and at Tea, the partnership between the pair was on 81 off 114 deliveries. Elgar was on 115 off 168 while Bedingham was on 32 off 47 deliveries. South Africa creamed 140 runs in the second session.

India firebacks at end

However, India fought back in the final hour, with Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj bowling a few feisty short balls and picking up a couple of wickets. Bad light forced early stumps on Day 2, with South Africa reaching 256/5, ahead of India by 11 runs.

The match is evenly poised heading into Day 3, with both teams still in with a chance of victory. The weather forecast suggests rain might interrupt again.
