IND vs SA: South Africa's speedster Gerald Coetzee is set to miss the second and final test of the series against 'Men in Blue'. Coetzee is ruled out due to a pelvic inflammation. Cricket South Africa confirmed, on Saturday following the mammoth victory against India in Centurion, earlier this week. The Protese men beat Rohit's-men by an innings and 32 runs.

In terms of performance, the 23-year-old managed to scalp just one wicket in the first innings of the opening Test.  However, his contribution in the second innings was limited as he bowled just five overs as Protese convincingly defeated the visiting team. Surprisingly, Cricket South Africa has not designated any substitute player for the upcoming Test match, which will be played on January 3-7 in Cape Town.

Who will replace Coetzee in second Test vs IND?

The pace department of South Africa has plenty of options left despite the injury of Coetzee. Speedster, Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder are alternative pace bowling options, which providied selectors with flexibility. Moreover, Keshav Maharaj councld be inducted to the playing XI, who was not included in the first Test.

The 23-year-old became the second South African player to face an injury setback against India, following the exclusion of skipper Temba Bavuma, who encountered a hamstring injury during the match. In the absence of a regular skipper, Dean Elgar, who is playing his last series of his carrier and set to retire from international cricket, will lead South Africa in Johannesburg.

Coetzee's brilliant performance in WC 23

Coetzee's played a significant role in South Africa's World Cup 2023 campaign which was hosted in India. South Africa's brilliant performance earned them a spot in the semi-final of the tournament. The youngster, who was playing his first ODI World Cup scored 20 wickets in just eight matches at an impressive average of 19.80. The impeccable performance of Coetzee earned him an IPL contract with the five-time champions Mumbai Indians signed the rising star for a deal worth ₹5 crore.

On the other hand, India will be looking to avoid a whitewash or series defeat in Johannesburg in the final Test. A win from here means the series will end on 1-1, which could help India to gain some points on the WTC table as India has toppled to sixth pace after a disapppointing loss. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, back in 2011/12, India drew a Test series in South Africa.
