IND vs ENG: A composed partnership between Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel steered India to a comfortable five-wicket victory in the fourth Test against England at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. With this win, India took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. This is England's first Test series defeat under the new leadership of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes.

Resuming on day four at 40/0, India started confidently. Rohit Sharma smashed a six over long-on off James Anderson, while Yashasvi Jaiswal displayed his trademark range of strokes. The openers stitched together a crucial 84-run stand before Jaiswal's dismissal to Joe Root ignited a brief fightback from England.

England's fightback goes in vain

Rohit Sharma, after crossing the 50-run mark, was adjudged stumped by Tom Hartley. Rajat Patidar, who didn't score too many runs in the series, facing pressure, fell for a duck to Shoaib Bashir.

Following Pastidar's dismissal, India's batter struggled to score runs and lost wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, after a crucial partnership with Gill, chipped a straightforward catch to midwicket. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan was dismissed on the very next ball by Bashir.

However, the turning point arrived when Jurel, who played a pivotal role with a 90 in the first innings, combined with Gill to rebuild the innings. They displayed maturity, rotating the strike and negotiating the spinners effectively. Gill, despite losing partners around him, showed great composure, reaching his fifty with a six off his 120th ball. The duo added an unbeaten 72-run stand to clinch the series.

England Test series win awaits

Jurel finished the chase in the following over, capping off a remarkable turnaround after his first innings heroics. England's bowlers, particularly Shoaib Bashir looked very effective and scalped three wickets, but it was ultimately India's batting brilliance that sealed the victory. England has to wait for another series win in the Indian subcontinent. Alastair Cook-led England won the Test series in India in 2012.
