India's ace speedster, Jasprit Bumrah has been found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during the first encounter against the English side, where the visitors fought valiantly and handed a 28 run loss to the hosts at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.  Bumrah has been given an official reprimand for the offense, which happened during the fourth day's gameplay.

What was the offense of Bumarh?

The incident unfolded in the 81st over of England's second innings when India's pace spearhead had deliberately stepped in the way of Ollie Pope as the English batter had taken off for a single, which led to inappropriate physical contact between them.

The star bowler scalped six wickets in the Hyderabad Test match. He was found guilty of having breached Article 2.12 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.  The Code of Conduct deals with  “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match.”

Why ICC didn't fine Bumrah?

Although, the pacer was not fined by the ICC, because it was his first offence in 24 months. However, one demerit point has been added to his name. The charge against Bumrah was leveled by on-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and  Paul Reiffel, third umpire Marais Erasmus, and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit.

What is level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct?

According to the ICC Code of Conduct, if a player is found guilty of breaching Level 1, he has to face an official reprimand and the maximum is 50 percent of a match fee. He may have to face one or two demerit points, as well.  Moreover, Bumrah doesn't have to face an official hearing as the 30-year-old has accepted the sanction levied upon him after pleading guilty to the offence by the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referee, Richie Richardson.
