IND vs ENG: India's head coach Rahul Dravid delivered a heartwarming speech in Hindi before handing over the Test cap to debutant pacer Akash Deep during the fourth Test against England in Ranchi. Deep, replacing the ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, received the cap closer to his hometown.

Dravid recounted Deep's inspiring journey, starting from his humble beginnings in Dehri, then Bihar, and his transition from playing tennis ball cricket in Durgapur to excelling in domestic cricket. He highlighted the young pacer's perseverance, stating, "You faced hardships, worked hard, and overcame ups and downs. You moved alone to Delhi, inspired by the 2007 T20 win, and later to Kolkata, where your performances shone."

The speech held a deeper emotional layer as Dravid acknowledged the absence of Deep's father and elder brother. "Though they are no more, they are blessing you from above," he said. "Our entire team supports you. Enjoy this moment, this match, and fulfill your dream."

Deep's mother and other family members witnessed his debut. As Dravid presented the cap, he emphasized, "It's a big responsibility. Focus on the match, and have a successful career."

Impactful debut

The 27-year-old made his debut impactful. He overcame a no-ball setback to claim three key wickets in the first session. He scalped the wickets of Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Zak Crawley, impressing fans and justifying his selection.
