R Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav wove their web of spin to dent England's second innings on day three of the Ranchi Test today. After England posted a decent first-innings total, India clawed their way back with a fighting performance from Dhruv Jurel and Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, the spinners ensured England didn't run away with the match and bundled them for 145. India needs 192 runs to win the match.

Spin rattles England's batsmen

India opted for spin from the beginning and Ashwin held the decision correct and dismissed three English batters in quick succession. Ashwin dismissed Ben Duckett with a tossed-up delivery that landed safely in the hands of the short-leg fielder. The very next ball, Ollie Pope succumbed to Ashwin's guile, trapped leg before wicket.

The onus fell on Joe Root and Zak Crawley to rebuild the innings, and Crawley looked in good touch, peppering Ashwin with boundaries. However, Ashwin had the last laugh again, trapping Root lbw after a successful review.

India claims wickets at regular interval

With regular wickets falling, Crawley and Jonny Bairstow upped the scoring rate. But the joy was short-lived as Kuldeep Yadav castled Crawley for 60. Kuldeep struck again just before tea, dismissing skipper Ben Stokes in similar fashion, leaving England in a precarious position.

After the tea break, Jadeja dismissed Jonny Bairstow on his very first ball. The English wicketkeeper, Ben Foakes held an end but eventually fell to Ashwin's brilliance. Ashwin exploited the playing conditions and bundled England quickly.

Ashwin equals Kumble's record

Ravichandran Ashwin was the peak of the bowler from the Indian side, who claimed a 5-wicket haul in the game. He leveled Anil Kumble's record for the most number of five-fer in a Test for India. Both have scalped 35 five-wicket hauls in Tests.

Kuldeep Yadav also contributed significantly, claiming four wickets, while Mohammed Siraj claimed a wicket.
