IND vs AFG: Indian captain Rohit Sharma became the first cricketer to reach 100 wins in T20 international cricket on Thursday. Despite a duck with the bat, Sharma led his team to a comfortable six-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the opening match of the three-match series at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.

Rohit Sharma is making his return to the T20I format after a 14-month hiatus. His contribution with the bat was brief, thanks to a disastrous run-out on the second ball of the chase.

Most matches won in Men's T20 Internationals:

  • Rohit Sharma: 100
  • Shoaib Malik: 86
  • Virat Kohli: 73
  • Mohammad Hafeez: 70
  • Mohammad Nabi: 70

The responsibility of chasing down Afghanistan's 159-run target fell on the shoulders of Shivam Dube and Jitesh Sharma, who performed brilliantly. Dube, anchoring the chase, scored an unbeaten 60 off 40 deliveries, with five boundaries and two maximums. Jitesh Sharma provided valuable support with a quick-fire 20-ball 31.

Earlier, Afghanistan's batting effort revolved around veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, who smashed 42 off 27 balls. Nabi's late flourish helped Afghanistan post a respectable total despite facing consistent pressure from the Indian bowlers.

The six-wicket win puts India 1-0 up in the series, setting the stage for an intriguing battle in the second match scheduled for the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, January 14.
