The IPL 2025 season is just a few days away but just before that a big news has come. Just 5 days before the start of the 18th season of the tournament, a big team of the league has been sold. According to the information, former champion Gujarat Titans has been bought by a new company. Gujarat's famous Torrent Group completed the acquisition of Gujarat Titans on Monday 17 March. Gujarat Titans joined the IPL in 2021. Then CVC Capitals bought it for Rs 5600 crore. Gujarat also won the title in its very first season in 2022.

How much stake did Torrent buy?

News agency reported that Torrent Group announced the completion of the acquisition of the franchise on Monday. Now Torrent Group has acquired control of the franchise by buying 67 percent of its stake. The amount of this deal has not been disclosed. However, Moneycontrol's report states that the current value of Gujarat Titans is estimated to be around Rs 7500 crore and in such a situation, Torrent has bought this stake by paying around Rs 5025 crore. As far as CVC is concerned, the firm will still have a 33 percent stake.

IPL's second most expensive team

CVC Capitals had placed the highest bid for the Ahmedabad franchise in the e-auction organized by BCCI in 2021. Then the company had acquired it with a bid of Rs 5625 crore. In this way it became the second most expensive franchise in the history of IPL. Along with that, the Lucknow franchise was bought by the Goenka Group, which proved to be the most expensive franchise with a bid of more than 7 thousand crores.

Will there be a change in the captaincy-coaching staff?

Torrent Group announced the agreement regarding the deal on 12 February. However, as far as the team is concerned, the change in ownership is not going to have any effect on the management of the team this season. The command of the team is still in the hands of Shubman Gill, who became the captain of the team last season. At the same time, the head coach is still Ashish Nehra, while Vikram Solanki is still the Director of Cricket of the franchise. Gujarat surprised everyone by winning the title in its debut season of 2022 under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. After this, the team reached the final in the next season as well.
