The eagerly awaited clash between India and Pakistan in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is set to undergo a schedule change, with the match now rescheduled to take place on October 14, a day earlier than initially planned. Additional adjustments to the World Cup schedule are in the works, and the official announcement regarding these changes is expected to be made on July 31.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah hinted at the possibility of a schedule change last week, revealing that three cricket boards had written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) requesting a calendar adjustment. The primary aim of the alteration is to reduce the gap between matches to four or five days, instead of the current six-day gaps between some matches. However, Shah did not disclose the names of the ICC full members who had made the request.

“Three members have written to the ICC for a schedule change. Only the date and timings will be changed, venues will not be changed. If there is a six-day gap between games, we are trying to reduce it to four-five days. The picture will be clear in three-four days. Changes will happen in consultation with the ICC,” Shah stated.

India vs Pakistan in World Cup rescheduled due to Navaratri concerns

The decision to reschedule the India vs Pakistan clash came about due to concerns raised by the local police in Ahmedabad regarding security arrangements on October 15. On that day, the Hindu festival Navaratri is set to commence, and the authorities are apprehensive about ensuring adequate security measures amid the festive atmosphere. With the high-profile match and the religious celebration both taking place on the same day, authorities expressed the need to avoid potential strains on their capacity to manage the events effectively.

The potential schedule change has sparked concerns among fans and stakeholders who had already made travel arrangements for the originally planned date, including booking flights and hotels in Ahmedabad.

Many Pakistan fans also took to Twitter to express concerns about the congested schedule for the Shaheens.
