ICC Rankings: India's 'Prince' dethrones Babar as No.1 ODI batter

Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj make history In latest ICC rankings.

Indian star in making, Shubman Gill, has terminated Babar Azam's reign as the top ODI batter in the world. Gill claimed the No. 1 position from the Pakistan skipper on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Batting Rankings.

After the solid start from 'Men in Blue' in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Gill displace Babar to become just the fourth player from India to grab the top spot after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli.

The 24-year-old batter hammered 92 runs against Sri Lanka and 23 against South Africa in the previous encounter, and scored 219 runs from six innings at the ongoing tournament.

Pakistan's skipper Babar scored 282 runs from eight knocks at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which forced the ratings to drop six points below Indian batter into second place. Earlier, Babar Azam held the top spot for more than two years.

King Kohli is on 4th 

Gill's promotion in the rankings was accompanied by India's stalwart batter Kohli, who jumped three places to the fourth potion in the latest ODI batter rankings. 

The ongoing World Cup tournament also affected the major shake-up inside the Top 10 of the batting and bowling list after the impressive performances of the Indian star. The South African stalwart opener Quinton de Kock stands in the third spot after his brilliant 543 runs at the ongoing World Cup.

Shreyas Iyer makes a significant jump of 17 places to 18th overall in the rankings for ODI batters, with Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman moving three spots to 11th after his brilliant knock against New Zealand and Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran moved up six spots to 12th.

Siraj reclaims top spot 

While Indian speedster Mohammed Siraj climbed to the top of the bowler's rankings in the ODIs, he claimed 10 wickets in the ongoing World Cup making the list completely different as compared to the start of the World Cup.

Siraj climbed two positions to reclaim his crown, while his compatriot teammate Kuldeep Yadav moved three places to fourth, While, Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah climbed three positions to eight and Mohammed Shami moved significantly up seven to tenth spot. 

Keshav Maharaj holds second spot

South Africa's veteran spinner Keshav Maharaj moves to second position and Australia's leg spinner Adam Zampa claims the third spot. Meanwhile, last week's No.1 ranked ODI bowler Shaheen Afridi drops four places to share the fifth spot alongside fellow seamer Josh Hazlewood.

Sri Lanka pacer Dilshan Madushanka, who is the leading wicket-taker at the ICC Cricket World Cup jumps 31 places to 45th on the list for ODI bowlers rankings, while India spinner Ravindra Jadeja is on 19th position.
