Indian star batsman Shubman Gill was announced as the winner of the prestigious ‘ICC Men’s Player of the Month‘ award for September 2023 by the top cricket governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday.

After smashing 480 ODI runs at a brilliant average of 80 in September, Gill overcame the compatriot speedster Mohammed Siraj and England’s opener Dawid Malan to secure the award.

The 24-year-old scored 302 runs at an average of 75.5 at the Asia Cup 2023, including an unbeaten 27 in the finals, when India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets.

Gill scored 178 runs in two outings against Australia in the bilateral series at home before the World Cup. He scored a hundred in the second match of the series. Earlier, Gill scored a ton against Bangladesh during the Asia Cup 2023 in September.

However, Gill has missed India’s opening two matches due to illness in the Cricket World Cup.

According to ICC, Gill said after winning the award, “I am delighted to have won the ICC Player of the Month award for the month of September.
