New Delhi: The victorious Indian cricket team's return home has been significantly delayed due to a severe storm in Barbados, which has led authorities to shut down air travel, forcing the players, including Rohit Sharma, who triumphed over South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final on Saturday, to remain confined to their hotel rooms, with no clarity on their return schedule even by Monday.

What media report says?

According to media reports, the Barbados airport had to be closed and all flights were cancelled because Hurricane Beryl is expected to arrive. This hurricane is a Category 4, which is very severe, so air travel is not safe. Therefore, travel plans can't be finalized for the next 24 hours.

A report in the Washington Post says that Beryl is expected to hit the Windward Islands with winds over 130 mph. The Hurricane Center says the storm could cause a surge of 6 to 9 feet and rainfall of 3 to 6 inches.

About celebration ceremony

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, was asked about a celebration ceremony for the players in India who became champions by winning trohy of ICC Men T20 World Cup. He said that some plans need to be made, but this will only happen after the team leaves Barbados for India. For now, everyone is stuck.

"Like you we are also stuck here. After the travel plans are clear, we will think about the felicitation," Shah told PTI.

Some players from India's T20 World Cup squad are also set to travel to Zimbabwe for a 5-match T20I series starting on July 6. The delay in returning home has disrupted those plans. It's likely that some players will have their break cut short due to this upcoming series.
