SRH declared that Sundar will not be playing in IPL 2023 due to a hamstring injury. Sundar had recently given an impressive all-round performance against SRH, scoring 60 runs and taking three wickets in seven matches this season.

Huge Loss For Sunrisers Hyderabad

The loss of all-rounder Washington Sundar has is being seen as a significant blow to Sunrisers Hyderabad as he has been forced to withdraw from the rest of the IPL 2023 season due to a hamstring injury.

In the beginning of the current IPL campaign, Sundar faced difficulties making an impact for former champions SRH with both bat and ball, resulting in a slow start. Nevertheless, in the recent game against Delhi Capitals, the 23-year-old’s fortunes changed as he performed exceptionally well, displaying his prowess with both bat and ball for the team.

During the game against DC, Sundar was able to take three wickets in just one over, which included the crucial dismissal of David Warner. His other victims were Sarfaraz Khan and Aman Khan, resulting in him achieving figures of 3/28 in four overs.

Subsequently, the all-rounder performed well with the bat and nearly helped SRH win the game with his rapid innings of 24 runs from just 15 balls, which included three boundaries.

SRH Announced Sundar’s Rule Out

Unfortunately, SRH announced on their Twitter account that Sundar’s campaign has been curtailed due to a hamstring injury, and he will not participate in the remainder of the season. The former IPL champions confirmed that Sundar will be unavailable for the rest of the games.

Sundar had a tally of 60 runs and three wickets in the seven matches he featured in. After the defeat to CSK, Head Coach Brian Lara stated that the team aims for Sundar to become an excellent all-rounder but is willing to be patient and allow him time to develop.

The coach emphasised that Sundar is valued for his abilities in both bowling and batting, but the team has other players who can play at the top positions. While the team aspires for Sundar to become an outstanding all-rounder, they acknowledge that it will require patience and time. The coach added that immediately promoting Sundar up the batting order out of desperation would be like panicking and hitting the panic button.
