In a stellar display of cricketing prowess, India’s Mohammed Siraj etched his name into the record books during the Asia Cup ODI match against Sri Lanka. Siraj’s remarkable performance broke numerous records and showcased India’s dominance on the field.

First, Siraj’s dominating performance earned him the record for the fastest ODI five-wicket haul, matching the legendary Chaminda Vaas, who achieved this feat against Bangladesh in 2003, both accomplishing the feat in just 16 balls.

Not limited to just one record, Siraj continued to make history by becoming the second-fastest bowler, after Sri Lankan player Ajanta Mendis, to reach 50 ODI wickets, achieving this milestone in 1002 balls and joining an exclusive club of Indian bowlers, becoming the 11th to secure a six-wicket haul in ODIs. His astonishing figures of 6 for 21 placed him fourth on the list of best bowling figures by an Indian bowler in ODI history and 31st overall in ODI cricket.

Perhaps the most remarkable feat of the day was when Siraj became the first Indian bowler and the fourth overall to claim four wickets in a single over in ODIs, leaving a lasting mark on the game.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, endured an embarrassing outing as they recorded their lowest-ever score in Asia Cup ODIs, managing a mere 50 runs in 15.2 overs. This score also marked their second-lowest total in ODI history and is ranked as the 10th lowest in ODI cricket.

India’s dominance was further exemplified as they clinched their biggest win in ODI cricket, chasing down Sri Lanka’s target with a staggering 263 balls to spare. The run chase, completed in just 6.1 overs, secured India’s place among the top five fastest run chases in One-Day Internationals.

With this victory, India improved its record for the most wins by a team against a single opponent in ODIs, notching up their 98th win against Sri Lanka. In the midst of these historic achievements, Indian captain Rohit Sharma earned a place in the record books as well, becoming the third Indian captain to claim two ODI Asia Cup titles, sharing this honor with MS Dhoni and Mohammed Azharuddin.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka found themselves facing an unwanted record, as they were bowled out after just 15.2 overs, marking the second-lowest number of overs faced when batting first and getting all out in an ODI.
