In a recent interview on a talk show, the legendary cricketer Gautam Gambhir was asked about his biggest regret in life. Gambhir gave a shocking reply as he said that ” I should not have been a cricketer.” The left-handed batter was speaking during the ‘Bada Bharat Talk Show’ season 2. This was part of a rapid-fire segment, and Gambhir didn’t explain the reason behind his answer.

Controversial Stance and Criticism

Gambhir has been involved in many controversies and received ample criticism on social media for some of his blunt take on popular cricketers including Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Although none of that stopped the former cricketer from speaking his mind. Earlier, following an incident during the Asia Cup game in Sri Lanka, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir found himself in a controversy again. Fans were chanting in support of Virat Kohli as he was passing through the stadium following the cancellation of the India vs. Nepal game in Pallekele.

The chants of “Kohli, Kohli” from the crowd appeared to elicit a response from Gambhir. He made an offensive gesture with his hand. When the incident was caught on camera and quickly posted to social media, it sparked a lot of online discussion. Gambhir said, they were making anti-India slogans during the India-Pakistan match.

Future superstar of India

In international cricket, there have been some impressive young Indian players showcasing their talent. Shubman Gill, Tilak Varma, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are just a few players who have backed up their IPL performances with significant runs abroad. Intriguingly, when Gambhir was asked to name a young cricketer who has the potential to become a superstar in the near future, he choose leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Since the last couple of seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gambhir has been the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants team. He has observed Bishnoi closely during the IPL, and Gambhir has a lot of expectations from him. The spinner, who has played in 13 T20Is and just one ODI for team India, at an average of 18.25, the 23-year-old has taken 20 wickets in T20Is, while in ODIs, he has scalped one wicket. In 52 IPL games, Bishnoi has picked up 53 wickets.

The impact Gautam Gambhir has had on Indian cricket is enormous. Indian cricket fans will always remember his finals performances from the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. Additionally, he led the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League and made the KKR championships twice while serving as captain.
