New Delhi: Former Indian left-handed batter and Kolkata Knight Riders mentor is likely to succeed stalwart cricketer Rahul Dravid as Head Coach of India's men's cricket team. According to media reports, the announcement will be made after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024 finals. Notably, Rahul Dravid's reign will end after the T20 World Cup and more importantly he is no longer interested in extending his tenure. However, BCCI hasn't released any official announcement so far.
Reports also claimed that BCCI officials have agreed on GG's appointment in a meeting held on Thursday. Speculations are rifle that BCCI can announce the appointment before the T20 World Cup, depending on India's performance in the ICC's top event.

So far, India has performed exceptionally well in the ongoing tournament. Rohit's-men have qualified for the Super 8 games which are scheduled to start from June 20. Along with India, 6 teams have qualified for Super 8. The list includes Australia, England, Afghanistan, West Indies, South Africa, and the USA.
Reports also claimed that Gambhir demanded that he want to appoint his own support staff, which BCCI has agreed upon. As of now, Vikram Rathour is the batting coach, Paras Mhambrey is the bowling coach who is working alongside fielding coach T Dilip. Notably, Vikram Rathour was repointed as batting coach, when Dravid took over from former coach Ravi Shastri.
In terms of experience, GG has a brilliant track record in IPL at the national level. Under his mentorship, Lucknow Super Giants stormed into playoffs in 2023 while Kolkata Knight Riders clinched title for a record third time.
