On Sunday, Saurabh Netravalkar delivered an exceptional performance against India in the USA's T20 World Cup 2024 match held in New York. The software engineer, employed at Oracle, stunned the cricketing world by dismissing Indian superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma within his first two overs during the powerplay. This pivotal moment came as India was defending a modest total of 110 runs in a Group A encounter on Thursday. Netravalkar’s fiery spell earned admiration from cricket fans both in the United States and India, where the former India U19 bowler was celebrated for his feat against the Asian giants.

Early Breakthroughs with the New Ball

Netravalkar, tasked with opening the bowling attack, quickly made an impact with the new ball. The 30-year-old left-arm fast bowler dismissed Virat Kohli with his very first delivery. Bowling over the wicket, he managed to shape the ball away from Kohli, who edged it and was caught for a golden duck. This made Netravalkar the first bowler in ICC tournament history to dismiss Kohli for a golden duck, a rare occurrence that has only happened twice in Kohli’s T20I career.

Dismissal of Rohit Sharma

Continuing his impressive spell, Netravalkar took the wicket of his former Mumbai teammate, Rohit Sharma, in his second over. He bowled a slower delivery that deceived the Indian captain, resulting in Sharma's dismissal. Netravalkar celebrated the significant wicket exuberantly, as India found themselves reeling at 10 for 2 by the third over. His efforts silenced the partisan crowd that had been cheering for Rohit and his team.

Anticipation and Global Recognition

Netravalkar’s stunning double blow against India came just days after he expressed his excitement about bowling to Rohit and Kohli in an interview with India Today. His previous match-winning spell and a remarkable Super Over performance against Pakistan had already drawn significant attention from the global cricketing community, setting the stage for his heroics against India.
