New Delhi: Manu Bhaker made history at the Paris Olympics, becoming the first Indian woman shooter to ever stand on the Olympic podium, securing a bronze medal in the women's 10m air pistol event on Sunday. She narrowly missed out on a silver medal, finishing just 0.1 points behind Kim Yeji, who went on to claim silver, while Oh Ye Jin of Korea took home the gold medal. 

Manu Bhaker was born in Haryana's Goria village.  Her father, Ram Kishan Bhaker, works as a chief engineer in the Merchant Navy. Before becoming a shooter, she excelled in various sports like martial arts, boxing, tennis and skating. She won national medals until age 14.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates Manu Bhaker for winning India's first medal at the Paris Olympics. He wrote, " A historic medal! India is proud of Manu Bhaker: Murmu

President of India, Droupadi Murmu also congratulates Manu Bhaker. She tweeted, "Heartiest congratulations to Manu Bhaker for opening India’s medal tally with her bronze medal in the 10 metre air pistol shooting event at the Paris Olympics. She is the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in a shooting competition. India is proud of Manu Bhaker. Her feat is going to inspire many sportspersons, especially women. I wish she scales greater heights of accomplishment in the future."

Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini wrote in Hindi on X platform, finally the dream that the whole country was expecting from Haryana's strong daughter Manu Bhaker came true. The country's proud female shooter Manu Bhaker has shown her strength in Paris. Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal for the country in the 10 meter women's air pistol event at the Paris Olympics. Today, 22-year-old Manu Bhaker has achieved something that the whole country and the state of Haryana are proud of. Many congratulations to the strong and courageous daughter of Haryana.
