Paris Olympics 2024: India's journey at Paris Olympics has been a rollercoaster ride on Day 5. Some below-par performances were witnessed while some unbelievable performances were delivered by Indian athletes. Notably, India bagged two bronze medals in the 10m air pistol shooting event. Manu Bhakar has been instrumental throughout the event. She won bronze in 10m air pistol singles shooting and another bronze with Sarabjot Singh in 10m air pistol mixed team shooting event. With some impeccable performances, the Indian contingent is eying to add more medals to the tally. 

Earlier, Indian contingent managed to claim its best-ever figures by clinching seven medals. Neeraj Chopra won gold in the javelin throw. As the Olympic event moves forward, here are the key medal prospects in the upcoming events:   

1. Manika Batra makes history in table tennis

Manika Batra has etched her name in history by defeating France’s Prithika Pavade and securing a spot in the pre-quarterfinals. This victory made Manika Batra the first Indian table tennis player to reach the pre-quarterfinals at the Olympics. Despite a challenging performance in the team event, Manika displayed her exceptional skills in the individual competition.

2. Sreeja Akula's gritty performance

Sreeja Akula demonstrated remarkable resilience by advancing to the pre-quarterfinals after a hard-fought 4-2 win over Singapore's Jian Zeng in the women’s singles round of 32. Her tenacity and skill were on full display as she contributed to the historic achievements of Indian table tennis at the Paris Olympics.

3. Deepika Kumari's archery excellence

Top Indian archer Deepika Kumari progressed to the pre-quarterfinals of the women's individual event at the Paris Olympics. She secured consecutive victories in her matches, underscoring her precision and excellence in archery. Deepika's consistent performance has kept India's hopes high in the archery events.

4. Lakshya Sen's badminton brilliance

India's badminton sensation Lakshya Sen advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s singles competition with a straight-game win over Indonesia's world number 4, Jonatan Christie. The 22-year-old is also a 2021 World Championships bronze medallist. He defeated Christie 21-18, 21-12. 

5. Lovlina Borgohain's boxing triumph

Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain stormed into the quarter-finals of the women's 75kg boxing event. She achieved this by defeating Norwegian boxer Sunniva Hofstad with a unanimous 5:0 decision in the round of 16 bout. Lovlina's strong start at the Paris 2024 Olympics has set the stage for further success.

6. PV Sindhu's dominant display

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Indian badminton star PV Sindhu achieved decisive victory against Kristin Kuuba in just 32 minutes. Displaying exceptional form, Sindhu won the match with a score of 21-5, 21-10. This victory, coupled with her prior win against Fathimath Abdul Razzaq, secured her position at the top of her group. Sindhu's powerful smashes and skilled net play were too much for her opponents to handle.

7. Swapnil Kusale's shooting success

Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale qualified for the finals of the 50m rifle 3 positions event in Chateauroux after finishing seventh in the qualification round. The finals are scheduled for Thursday, where Kusale will aim to continue his impressive performance and bring home a medal for India.
