France star fielder, Paul Pogba has been banned from football for four years. He has been banned on the grounds of failing the drug test back in August 2023. It is being speculated that this might bring the end to the French World Cup winner's career.

Club's response

While Juventus refrained from commenting on the matter, media reports claimed that the club had been informed about the decision regarding the four-year ban and would evaluate their next steps accordingly.

Paul Pogba released an statement after suspension, "I am sad, shocked and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me."

"When I am free of legal restrictions the full story will become clear, but I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplements that violate anti-doping regulations," he added.

From injuries to doping allegations

Pogba's return to Juventus from Manchester United has been marred by unfortunate circumstances. He suffered from numerous injuries, limiting his participation in matches for his team. The situation worsened with the revelation of his failed drug test. Pogba allegedly tested positive for testosterone following a random test conducted after Juventus's first Serie A game of the 2023 season against Udinese, where he remained an unused substitute.

Legal proceedings and pleas

Following the positive test result, Pogba faced a provisional suspension from Italy's National Anti-Doping Tribunal (NADO Italia) in September. Despite asserting that he unknowingly consumed the banned substance, Pogba's plea for innocence was rejected by the chief investigator of the case, Pierfilippo Laviani.

Is Pogba's ban reversible?

While anti-doping prosecutors in Italy initially sought a four-year ban, Pogba chose not to contest the decision in the national anti-doping agency. However, there remains a possibility of his ban being reduced through an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Impact on his career and future

As a result of the ongoing situation, Pogba has been sidelined by Juventus, with his salary reduced to the minimum until further developments in his case. Given the severity of the ban, Pogba's future in football is uncertain, with many speculating that this setback could mark the end of his illustrious career.
