FIFA shares a glimpse of the trophy:

Winner Revealed and tie-breaking process explained

Both Messi and Halland tied according to the FIFA rating system with 48 points each. This resulted in national team captains being asked to cast a vote.

Gathering more votes Messi became the winner of the best men's player award. The Argentinian player who currently plays for Inter Miami CF also won last year making this a second successive year of his victory. Some captains who voted in favor of Messi were Sunil Chhetri, Harry Kane, and Mohamed Salah. Lionel Messi himself voted for Haaland, ahead of French Mbappe and Julian Alvarez who was his teammate.

Usually, the best awards are given based on votes taken from national team coaches, captains, journalists, and fans. FIFA rules say that if finalists are to get tied on points, the individual with more first-choice selections from their own group of voters would be declared the winner. In this case, their group was Captains.
