At the world athletics indoor championships on Saturday, Dutch sprinter Femke Bol once again broke her own world record in the women's 400 meters. The 22-year-old phenom blazed around the track in 49.17 seconds, shaving 0.07 seconds off the record she had set just two weeks prior at the Dutch national championships.

Bol's indoor world title comes on the heels of her gold medal performance in the 400 meter hurdles at the world championships in Budapest last August. She has asserted herself as the dominant quartermiler on the global stage.

In a historic display of Dutch speed, Bol's training partner and teammate Lieke Klaver claimed the silver medal in 50.16 seconds. This marked the first time two Dutch women have ever reached the podium together in the same event at the world indoor championships.

"We've trained so hard together to make this a Dutch one-two," said an elated Bol after the race. Alexis Holmes of the United States rounded out the podium with a personal best time of 50.24 seconds to take bronze.

Bol and Klaver have showcased the Netherlands' emergent sprinting pedigree through their commanding performances across 400 meters this indoor season. Bol's world record will likely stand as one of the highlights of the 2024 championships.
