In the inaugural match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and opted to field first at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Regular captain Kane Williamson is sitting out for the Kiwis as he is still recovering from injury although, he played two practice matches in the warm-up games against Pakistan and South Africa, Williamson only played as a batter against Pakistan and batted and fielded against South Africa. Kiwis are playing without their regular pacer Tim Southee, spinner Ish Sodhi and Lockie Ferguson, who has a bit of niggle related issues.

After winning the toss Latham said, “Going to have a bowl. Looks a reasonably good surface. Hopefully later on it gets better to bat. Preparation has been great. Guys came together from different parts of the world a week ago. Unfortunately Kane’s not quite ready yet. Ferguson has got a bit of a niggle. Sodhi, Kane, Southee all miss out”.

While England are playing without star allrounder Ben Stokes who has a niggle with his hip. Other players missing out from the English side include bowlers Gus Atkinson and Reece Topley and allrounder David Willey.

England 75/2 in 15 overs

England has scored 73 runs with the loss of two wickets in 15 overs. Joe Root and Harry Brook are batting at the moment. Jonny Bairstow was dismissed for 33 while, left-handed batter Dawid Malan managed to score 14 runs.
