Following his highest-scoring performance in the semi-final match between Australia and India in Dubai on Tuesday Steve Smith declared his retirement from One Day International Cricket matches. Smith expressed his decision to stop playing ODI cricket right after winning the semi-final game for Australia.

Twenty20 International games

Cricket Australia has released a statement stating that Steve Smith remains accessible for Test matches and Twenty20 International games. When Smith made his first team appearance against West Indies in 2010 through spin bowling and all-rounder play he accumulated 170 matches with 5800 runs at 43.28 average and thirteen hundred runs and thirty-five fifty runs while taking a total of 28 wickets at 34.67. In his career as a cricketer Smith participated in Australia's ICC World Cup victories during both 2015 and 2023. When the team became without their regular captain Pat Cummins due to injury during the Champions Trophy he took charge of the ODI team until Cummins' return.

Champions Trophy final

Smith determined Australia to face India in the semi-final through his first-batting decision on the drybowling test scenario at Dubai. As Australia navigated the tacky playing conditions Smith scored 73 runs from his 96-ball innings thus leading Australia to set the 265-run total which India later accomplished to qualify for their third straight Champions Trophy final.
