Virat Kohli, who won the World Cup Man of the Match award, has announced his retirement from Twenty20 cricket. India won the T20 World Cup on an emotional day after defeating South Africa, who lost by seven runs in the final over, to end their 11-year wait for a worldwide championship.

Virat Kohli in the post-match presentation that, "This was my last t20 World Cup, and this is what we wanted to achieve. One day you feel you can't get a run, then things happen. God is great, and I got the job done for the team on the day it mattered. Now or never, last T20 for India, wanted to make the most of it. Wanted to lift the cup, wanted to respect the situation rather than force it. This was an open secret, it's time for the next generation to take over, some amazing players will take the team forward and keep the flag waving high."

India won the T20 World Cup in a suspenseful contest and ended the ICC trophy drought. On Saturday, India prevailed by 7 runs. India secured their second T20 Men's World Cup victory, defeating South Africa in an exciting match.

In the T20 World Cup final versus South Africa, India amassed a formidable total of 176 runs thanks to Virat Kohli's tenacious performance. With three boundaries in the opening over, Kohli established the tone early on. But Keshav Maharaj of South Africa retaliated swiftly, dismissing wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma in the second over. Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada, adding to India's woes as they trailed by three wickets in the powerplay.
