The game of cricket has attracted a lot of money in the past 10 years, making BCCI the richest board in the world. However, the fans who have made the game what it has become are often deprived of the basic amenities and facilities at most of the stadiums around the country. Now, ahead of ODI World Cup which is scheduled to happen in October-November this year, BCCI is planning to do a massive upgradation of at least five major stadiums in the country.

According to the sources, during the India-Australia Test Series in February–March, spectators expressed their displeasure over the unclean restrooms. Delhi being one of the five locations that underwent a GAP evaluation from the BCCI is not surprising.

As per the information, the stadiums that will go under the changes are Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mohali and Mumbai. However, Wankhede stadium in Mumbai has recently undergone renovation before the India-Australia ODIs in February-March, still the fans complained of poor sanitation during the visit to the famous stadium.

The massive renovation of at least five stadiums will be done at the estimated cost of over Rs 500 crore ahead of the ODI World Cup in India. It is said renovation of the roof is not possible in Delhi stadium due to structural flaws at the venue, still the costs are huge.

The estimated cost for the renovation at the Delhi Stadium is Rs 100 crore, Rs 117 crore for Hyderabad, Rs 127 crore for Eden Gardens, Kolkata, Rs 79.46 crore for PCI Stadium in Mohali and Rs 78.82 crore for Wankhede Stadium. the costs will go drastically high if the roof work is involved.

There are twelve potential locations for World Cup games, including Ahmedabad, which is probably where the championship game will be played, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot, and Mumbai. The 46-day ICC event will have 48 games in total. The previous time India hosted the ODI World Cup was in 2011, India won the championship under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The 2023 World Cup which will be hosted by India is likely to begin on October 5 and till November 19. However, the schedule has not been shared by the ICC yet. But according to the buzz, it is been anticipated that the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium will host the finals and Wankhede Stadium will host the two semi-finals in Mumbai.

The report also says that Pakistan matches will be organised out of India. However, the committee has not disclosed the details yet. Delhi and Chennai have been billed for the big India-Pakistan but nothing has been confirmed by BCCI or ICC.

Format of the Matches

The ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023 should have 10 teams, just like it did in 2019. Similar to the 1992 and 2019 cricket world cups, each team will play the other teams in a round-robin (randomly picked team) format. The top two teams from a semi-final between four teams will advance to the final.
