At the Masters, Tiger Woods is back with a slight limp. It is not every minute or step. But it exists. Even though his right leg has been repaired, he probably will continue to play the sport he once dominated with a limp.

How long will he continue to play Augusta National? It’s a little harder to predict that.

Even though he is 47 years old and has had back and leg surgeries in the past ten years, Woods acknowledged that each Masters appearance makes him wonder if it will be his last.

Woods stated on Tuesday, “I don’t know how many more I have in me.”

Woods is still surprised that there was a 24th, even though this will be his 25th appearance at the Masters. After crashing his car off a suburban Los Angeles road at over 85 mph and crushing bones in his right leg so severely, he said doctors considered amputation last year, but he was still recovering.

Woods stated, “I didn’t know if I was going to play again at that time.” I was pleased to cut because, for some reason, everything kind of came together and I pushed it a little bit.

Woods has a colossal presence at Augusta Public given his effect on the game, also the five green coats he has won, the final remaining one out of 2019. His flight plan to the club for a pre-Masters scouting report was followed by aviation tracking sites a year ago.

Yet now he restores a sense of normalcy to his master.

Golf has been consumed by the significant divide that exists between the establishment and Saudi-funded LIV Golf, which has 18 players suspended from regular PGA Tour events at the Masters. Players from both sides are being questioned about how they will get along.

Woods at the Masters, on the other hand. Dogwoods and azaleas are blooming. In practice rounds, thousands of people follow him. Additionally, the first tee’s well-known refrain will be repeated on Thursday: “Front please, Tiger Woods driving.”

No one knows what to expect from there, including Woods.

Rory McIlroy, who played Monday alongside Tiger Woods, 63-year-old Fred Couples, and 20-year-old Tom Kim, commented, “He looks good.” I think he would be one of the favourites if he didn’t have to walk up these hills and do all that. He has every shot. It’s just the physical constraint of walking 72 holes, especially on a hilly golf course like this one.

Through time and too many surgeries, Woods has changed from a ferocious champion to a guardian who is willing to share some of the local knowledge he learned from Couples, Raymond Floyd, Seve Ballesteros, and Jose Maria Olazabal when he was younger.

He continues to wish to compete. If that were not the case, there would be no point in staying after the Masters Club dinner on Tuesday night. Additionally, he retains the belief that he can create some magic.

He has stated that hitting shots is not the problem everywhere he has played over the past year, which included 11 rounds in four tournaments, one of which was a 36-hole exhibition in a cart with his son. It’s on its way to the next one.

Woods responded, “Yeah, mobility, it’s not where I would like it.” I’ve already told you that I’m extremely fortunate to have this leg, which is mine. Although it has been altered and contains hardware, it remains mine. It has been hard and will continue to be hard. My leg’s capability and endurance will never be the same in the future. That’s understandable.

That’s why I can’t prepare for and participate in as many tournaments as I would like, but that’s okay because that’s my future. I’m alright with that.”

Even just playing last year gave Woods a small victory, and cutting was a bonus. As a professional, he has never missed the cut at the Masters, and that streak is up for grabs once more. On the other hand, he played all four rounds at Riviera in February, his first PGA Tour event in seven months.

He stated, “I think my game is better than it was at this time last year.” I believe my endurance has improved. However, it hurts a little bit more than it did last year because I hadn’t pushed it that much when I came back. Additionally, I had a small opening through which I could push it and return.

He stated, “I just have to be cognizant of how much I can push it.” I can hit a lot of shots, as Rory said, but walking forward is going to be difficult for me. I wish it were simpler.

So why bother attending?

Long ago, Woods said that if he didn’t think he could win, it was pointless to show up. At Riviera, in the third round, he teased with a 67. There are still shots there. He is also more familiar with Augusta National than any other championship course he plays.

He pointed to Couples, who can still hold his own despite swinging and walking casually. Couples and Gary Player share the record for the most cuts made in a row at the Masters, with 23. Woods can tie them assuming he comes to the end of the week.

Woods was questioned about whether the younger players to whom he imparts some of his expertise perceive him as a threat. His best finish in 13 PGA Tour events since he won his record-setting 82nd title is tied for ninth. That was before the car accident.

“Who knows whether I pose a threat to them or not?” He stated, ” In 2019, people probably didn’t think I was a threat either, but I kind of did okay.”
