Asian Para Games 2022, Hangzhou, China: The Indian contingent's gold rush at the 4th Asian Para Games continued as Deepthi Jeevanji clinched a gold medal in the women's 400m-T20 event, setting a new Asian Para record and games record on Tuesday.
Deepthi Jeevanji, with a remarkable timing of 56.69 seconds, achieved a glorious gold medal, leaving Thailand's Orawan Kaising in the second place despite her personal best of 59.00 seconds. Japan's Niina Kanno secured a bronze medal with her personal best timing of 59.73 seconds.
In the men's 400m-T64 final, Ajay Kumar delivered his personal best performance, clocking 54.85 seconds to claim a silver medal. Nour Mohammed from Saudi Arabia shattered the Asian Para record, recording a timing of 52.81 seconds. Thailand's Jafa Seapla secured the bronze medal with a time of 55.09 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Manish Kaurav contributed to India's medal count on Day 2 by securing a bronze medal in the Canoe Men's KL3 Final event. Manish clocked 44.605 seconds, narrowly missing the gold by just 2.347 seconds. Uzbekistan's Khasan Kuldashev won the gold medal with a time of 42.258 seconds, while Kazakhstan's Zhalgas Taikenov claimed silver with a time of 44.605 seconds.
India's Prachi Yadav added to the victory tally by clinching a gold medal in the Canoe women's KL2 event on Day 2. This came after she secured a silver on Day 1 in the women's VL2 final.
With a total of 17 medals - 6 gold, 6 silver, and 5 bronze - India's contingent has had an impressive start at the 4th Asian Para Games. The Indian team is aiming to build on the success of Day 1.
This year, India sent its largest-ever contingent to the Asian Para Games, with 303 athletes - 191 men and 112 women participating in the event.
In the 2018 Asian Para Games, India participated with 190 athletes and returned with a total of 72 medals, including 15 gold, marking one of their best performances at the quadrennial event.
