Three medals came in quick succession for India Young wrestlers Sonam Malik, Kiran Bishnoi and Aman Sehrawat won the bronzes at the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, on Friday.

Sonam Malik won the bronze in women’s 62kg freestyle Kiran Bishnoi secured bronze in the 76kg weight category and Aman Sehrawat clinched bronze in freestyle 57 kg weight category.

Aman Sehrawat wins bronze

Aman Sehrawat, the 20-year-old young sensation won in the bronze medal clash after beating home favorite Liu Minghu 11-0 in men’s freestyle 57kg category.

Earlier, Aman Sehrawat won the gold medal by defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Almaz Smanbekov (9-4) in the 36th edition of the Asian Wrestling Championships held in Astana, Kazakhstan. India has won 14 medals(one gold, three silvers, and 10 bronze) and is ranked 7th in overall medal tally in the Asian Games championships. Kazakhstan topped in medal tally followed by Japan and Iran.

Bronze for Kiran Bishnoi

Kiran Bishnoi secured the bronze medal after defeating Mongolian opponent Ariunjargal Ganbat 3-0 in the women’s freestyle 76kg category bout.

Indian wrestler got off to a good start as she pushed her opponent out of bounds. The pair were locked in battle and the opponent Ariunjargal Ganbat escaped from a thigh hold but Kiran instantly pinned her down.

As the game proceeded Kiran Bishnoi went back to the defence and lost some crucial points in the process. The Mongolian created a quick recovery out of a difficult position as she did a takedown on the Indian to earn a couple of points. But Kiran bounced back quickly in the favour with a takedown of her own and managed to defend run down the clock and secure a podium finish at the end.

Sonam Malik clinches bronze

The 21-year-old Indian grappler Sonam Malik got better of her Chinese rival Jia Long 7-5 to claim a podium finish.

Sonam Mailk added a couple of points at the start of the game. The pressure was on Sonam and she responded by getting a double thigh hold by carrying her opponent out but could not pin her down and failed to take full toll of it. However, the Chinese wrestler immediately carried out the takedown to level the score.

Later in the day, Bajrang Punia will also wrestle in the bronze medal bout after losing the semifinals.
