Asian Cricket Council confirms India as host for men’s Asia Cup after 34-year gap

Asia Cup 2025 edition will be played in T20 World Cup, unlike the previous edition, which was organized in ODI format. This aligns with the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. However, next edition of Asia Cup will be played in ODI format, keeping ODI World Cup in mind, which will be played in the same year.

Asia Cup 2025: India is set to host Men's Asia Cup in 2025, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed on Tuesday. India will host the highly anticipated event after 34 years. Earlier, India hosted the 1990/91 edition of Asia Cup on its home turf. ACC in its recent Invitation of Expressions of Interest (IEOI) revealed that this event is part of its border plan for the 2024-27 cycle.

Asia Cup 2025 in T20 format 

Asia Cup 2025 edition will be played in T20 World Cup, unlike the previous edition, which was organized in ODI format. This aligns with the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. However, next edition of Asia Cup will be played in ODI format, keeping ODI World Cup in mind, which will be played in the same year. Six teams will feature in both tournaments and 13 matches will be played. Full fixtures of matches are yet to be announced. 

India will host the highly anticipated event for the second time. Bangladesh, on the other hand, has a long history of hosting the Asia Cup, with the upcoming 2025 event being their sixth time. They have previously hosted the tournament in 1998, 2000, 2012, 2014, and 2016.

Bangladesh's upcoming cricket events

Bangladesh is gearing up to host the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup later this year. Additionally, both India and Bangladesh will co-host the 2031 Men's ODI World Cup, showcasing their continued prominence in the cricketing world.

Future cricketing events in India

Apart from the Asia Cup, India is also set to host several other major cricket events. These include the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup, the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, which will be co-hosted with Sri Lanka, and the 2029 Men's Champions Trophy.

Will Pakistan participate?

Meanwhile, participation of Pakistan in Asia Cup hasn't been clarified. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hasn't released any clarifications on participation. This comes in the wake of India's participation in Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to be hosted in Pakistan. Indian Team has declined to visit Pakistan due to security concerns. However, talks are underway to reach a mutual agreement. India has asked for a hybrid model while Pakistan is not ready to insist.
