As the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023 final approaches, team India is facing concerns over the availability of star all-rounder Axar Patel. Axar sustained multiple injuries during India’s recent Super Four match against Bangladesh, raising doubts about his participation in the final showdown against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

No official word has been disclosed from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and The extent of Axar’s injuries, including a finger injury, a forearm hit, and a hamstring niggle, is unknown. Given the uncertainty surrounding his fitness, the BCCI has taken precautionary measures by calling up Washington Sundar as a replacement for Axar Patel.

A BCCI source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed, “Axar is currently suffering from multiple injuries. He has hurt his little finger, got hit on the forearm by a throw from deep, and most importantly, has developed a hamstring niggle. So Washington has been called in as a precautionary measure”.

Axar’s hamstring issue is of particular concern to the Indian team management, especially with just three weeks remaining until the World Cup. The team’s focus is now on his recovery and readiness for future matches.

Washington Sundar, known for his off-spin bowling, last featured in an ODI at home against New Zealand in January of the current year. His inclusion as cover for Axar Patel in the Asia Cup final could potentially alter the lineup for Team India. Washington Sundar is currently attending a training camp in Bangalore.
