Sri Lanka faced a big blow as star spinner Maheesh Theekshana has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023 final against India on Sunday after he injured his right hamstring during the Super Fours clash against Pakistan.

Dasun Shanaka, the skipper of Sri Lanka, told the media on the eve of the championship match in Colombo, saying, “He won’t be able to take part in this game since he got a Grade 3 injury, but he will be there for the World Cup“. “The boys really want to deliver for the country”, Shanaka stated.

Everyone wants to perform on a greater platform since, as a team, we have always been the underdog. These young people must demonstrate their abilities to the world.
While Theekshana is receiving treatment, top-order batsman Sahan Arachchige will join the team, according to Sri Lanka Cricket.

On Thursday, Theekshana was hurt while playing field versus Pakistan in a Super Four match. Even though he was clearly in discomfort, he continued bowling for three more overs. He had contributed significantly, claiming eight wickets in five matches, providing valuable support to a young and inexperienced bowling attack that included pacer Matheesha Pathirana and fellow spinner Dunith Wellalage.

Despite being underdogs going into the competition, Sri Lanka, which is co-hosting the event with Pakistan, has made it to their 11th Asia Cup final and has a chance to win their seventh championship. The island country beat Afghanistan in a thrilling match to move to the Super Fours, and despite losing to India in the Super Fours stage, they kept up their momentum.
