Indian ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has returned to India due to personal reasons and will not be available for the Nepal fixture on Monday in the Asia Cup. The right-arm pacer will return to Sri Lanka before the start of the Super Four round of the tournament. There have been no official statements from the BCCI about the exact reason behind Bumrah’s home return.

Opportunity knocks

Bumrah’s absence has opened the gates of opportunity for Mohammed Shami and Prasidha Krishna. Mohammed Shami is very likely to make his return to the playing XI.

The high-stakes matchup, India vs Nepal

The match against Nepal will be do or die for both teams, as both teams will be eyeing qualifying for the Super Four. India received 1 point against Pakistan in the washed-out game and stands at the second position in the Group A points table, while Nepal has 0 match points and stands at the third position in the group.

Bumrah, who featured in the high-voltage clash against Pakistan, didn’t bowl as the match got completely washed out. Bumrah, however, had an impact with the bat, scoring 16 runs off of 14 pitches. He finished the inning as the third-highest run-getter for India. Due to a back stress fracture, Bumrah was forced to miss almost 11 months of action and recently made his comeback in the T20I series against Ireland. Since August 2022, the right-arm quick hasn’t bowled a single ball in a one-day internationals.
