India won against Sri Lanka in the 10th Asia Cup final at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The match at the start felt like a letdown for Team India earlier with 213 runs on board, but spinners spun the game around for India as the team defeated the Lankans with 41 runs in hand. The victory has assured India’s presence in the finals of the Asia Cup in 2023. Also, this victory for the nation has opened an opportunity for Pakistan, which will face Sri Lanka in a knockout match, the winner of that match will decide the second finalist for the cup.

It was a dry pitch. Dunith Wellalage, the all-around player, never made a mistake. In the low-scoring contest, India’s initial bat-and-ball combination proved to be the deciding factor between the teams. India ended Sri Lanka’s 13-match winning streak with a decisive 41-run victory by capitalising on an 80-run partnership between captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill and a ferocious front-row session from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

Indian batsman Rohit Sharma, in this match, completed his 10,000 runs in ODI cricket and became the sixth Indian batter to reach the landmark after Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and MS Dhoni. This victory has made fans rejoice again as team India is back in their a-game, before the World Cup this year.

Jasprit Bumrah set the stage with two quick wickets, placing Sri Lanka on the back foot right away. With his first wicket, Mohammed Siraj entered the fray and reduced Sri Lanka to a precarious 25/3. After that, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka put together a key 43-run partnership before Kuldeep Yadav broke up their momentum by taking two wickets in back-to-back overs. Ravindra Jadeja took out Sri Lanka’s captain, Dasun Shanaka, adding to the tension as Sri Lanka struggled to a score of 99/6. After Sri Lanka’s spin duo of Dunith Wellalage and Asalanka combined to take nine wickets, they played a crucial part in bowling India out for 213, which was an amazing turn of events. Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets; his last over assured India’s victory in the match.
