Sports News. Ashwani Kumar made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians on 31 March. In his very first match, this left arm pacer wreaked havoc against Kolkata. He took 4 wickets for 24 runs in 3 overs at the Wankhede Stadium and completely destroyed KKR's batting line up. With this, he has also become the best performing bowler on IPL debut and has created history. Mumbai also achieved its first victory on his strength. For this, he was also selected as the Player of the Match. But do you know the struggle behind his success? Let us tell you.
Ashwani Kumar was born on 29 August 2001 in Jhanzheri, a small village in Mohali. He comes from a middle class family. He lost his father in his childhood. After his father's death, his mother played a major role in taking care of Ashwini and fulfilling his dream of cricket. His mother worked hard and along with running the family, also fulfilled his dream of becoming a cricketer.
Even after becoming a cricketer, his problems did not reduce. There was a time when his career was in danger. Actually, once he got seriously injured. It seemed as if he would not be able to play cricket. Due to this injury, he had to stay away from cricket for about 1 year. But after treatment and hard work, he recovered from this injury and returned to the cricket field. Then he never looked back.
Ashwani Kumar took 11 wickets in 6 matches in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup. It was with this performance that he came into the limelight for the first time. Then in 2022, he made his debut for Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and so far he has taken 3 wickets in 4 T20 matches, in which his economy rate is 8.5 runs per over. This economy may seem high to you, but since this player bowls more death overs, this figure is amazing. He has also played 2 first-class and 4 List A matches for Punjab.
Ashwani Kumar also became a part of Punjab Kings in the last season of IPL but did not get a chance to play a single match. After this, in the mega auction of IPL 2025, Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs 30 lakh and gave him a chance to make his IPL debut at Wankhede. Taking advantage of this opportunity, he dismissed Kolkata captain Ajinkya Rahane on his very first ball and became the first Indian player of Mumbai Indians to do so. Apart from Rahane, he hunted down veterans like Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey and Andre Russell.
