Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu's unexpected departure from the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) in Andhra Pradesh just days after joining has finally been clarified. His decision, which sparked online speculations, turns out to be connected with his upcoming participation in the second season of UAE's International League T20 (ILT20) cricket tournament.

Rayudu, who announced his intention to 'take a break from politics' on January 6, took to social media to shed light on his actions. Posting on his official X handle, he revealed, "I Ambati Rayudu will be representing the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming ILT20 from January 20 in Dubai. Which requires me to be politically non-affiliated whilst playing professional sports."

Brilliant IPL stint of Rayudu

These rules within the ILT20 playing conditions explain Rayudu's change of plans. Rayudu's return to the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise after five years marks a homecoming for the talented batsman. He played the last match for MI in 2017. Rayudu played eight seasons for the one of most successful teams in the IPL history MI and clinched three IPL titles. After his stint with MI, Rayudu moved on to the Chennai Super Kings and became a key player and lifted the IPL trophy alongside them on three occasions (2018, 2021, and 2023).

Political journey ends

Rayudu's brief political journey began on December 28 in 2023, when he joined the YSRCP in the presence of party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, his cricket commitments and the ILT20's regulations necessitated his unexpected exit, bringing his political journey to a premature end.
