Two female football players from the Himachal Pradesh team made serious allegations against an official from the All India Football Federation (AIFF). This incident occurred during the Indian Women's League (IWL) 2024 event, which was held in Goa.
The accused, Deepak Sharma, who serves on the AIFF's executive committee, reportedly entered the hotel room of Khad FC athletes while intoxicated and assaulted them after a small argument.
In response, representatives from the Goa Football Association (GFA) visited the team's hotel and demanded assurances from the team manager regarding the players' safety. Goa Police were notified of the incident, and a report was filed at the Mapusa police station by the GFA. Valanka Alemao, chairperson of the AIFF women's football committee, expressed concern over the incident and stated plans to address it seriously.
According to the complaint, Sharma, while intoxicated, assaulted the players after a disagreement. The athletes, supported by three witnesses, formally reported the incident to the police.
Deepak Sharma holds positions as the general secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Football Association and the deputy chairman of the AIFF's competitions committee. The AIFF has acknowledged the complaint and assured that appropriate action will be taken.
This incident is the second concerning the AIFF in the same week. Previously, a female staff member at the AIFF's main office in Delhi filed a verbal complaint of harassment against a male coworker. However, no formal complaint has been lodged yet.
The AIFF's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) convened to review the case, while the woman requested additional time before deciding on the next steps for her complaint.
