The stalwart Indian tennis sensation Rohan Bopanna has created history again at the Miami Open. The 44-year-old has become the oldest player ever to secure victory in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament. Partnering with Australia's Matthew Ebden, Bopanna clinched the Miami Open Men's Doubles title. The duo secured victory over the duo of Ivan Dodich from Croatia and Austin Krajicek from America.

Tremendous comeback after losing the first set

Facing tough competition, Bopanna and Ebden initially lost the first set with a scoreline of 6-7 (3-7). However, they displayed incredible resilience, staging a strong comeback to claim victory in the next two sets. Ultimately, Bopanna and Ebden emerged victorious with a score of 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 10-16. This win adds to Bopanna's illustrious career, having previously secured the Indian Wells title last year.

Bopanna joins Leander Paes' elite club

Bopanna has become the second Indian player, following in the footsteps of Leander Paes, to reach all nine ATP Masters 1000 finals. Earlier in the semi-final round, Bopanna and Ebden secured their place in the final by defeating Marcel Granollers from Spain and his Argentinian partner Horacio Zeballos with a convincing score of 6-1, 6-4.

Australian Open victory adds to their success

The year has been off to a stellar start for Bopanna and Ebden, who kicked off the season by winning the Australian Open together. Bopanna's remarkable performance saw him rise to the top spot in the men's doubles rankings. Throughout the year, the duo has reached three finals, achieving success twice.

Their recent victory at the Miami Open improves Bopanna and Ebden's 2024 season record to an impressive 14-3. This triumph marks their second ATP Masters 1000 level title, following their win in Indian Wells in 2023, further solidifying their position at the forefront of the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings.

Their ability to deliver precise serves at crucial moments played a pivotal role in their victory, which enabled them to level their Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Dodig and Krajicek at 1-1. Bopanna and Ebden showcased their brilliance by winning 78 percent (39/50) of points behind their first serves and successfully saving seven of eight break points they faced in the match, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
