New Delhi: Jharkhand captain and star wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was seen rolling his arms during a Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament match against Hyderabad in Chennai. A video of Kishan bowling off-spin has gone viral, capturing the attention of cricket fans. Despite Jharkhand being on the backfoot after a disappointing batting performance in the first innings, Kishan made a notable impact with the ball. He bowled two economical overs, conceding only five runs, and his off-spin delivery to southpaw T Ravi Teja was particularly noteworthy.

Kishan's bowling debut

Although Kishan has never bowled in international cricket or the Indian Premier League, he has a limited history of bowling in First-Class cricket, having bowled five overs without claiming a wicket. This recent display of off-spin is reminiscent of Rishabh Pant’s recent foray into bowling during the Delhi Premier League (DPL), showcasing a trend among wicketkeepers experimenting with new skills.

Impressive performance with bat

Kishan's return to red-ball cricket was marked by impressive performances. In the same Buchi Babu match, he played a crucial role in Jharkhand's victory over Madhya Pradesh. Kishan scored a commanding 114 off 107 balls in the first innings and remained unbeaten on 41 in the second innings. With Jharkhand needing 12 runs to win and only two wickets in hand, Kishan took charge, hitting two sixes off Akash Rajawat in the 55th over to secure the win.

Kishan's return to domestic cricket

Kishan's participation in the Buchi Babu Tournament was a late decision, communicated to the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA). He is also expected to return to the Ranji Trophy for the 2024-25 season, having expressed his desire to play in domestic first-class cricket again. Kishan’s absence from the Ranji Trophy towards the end of the 2023-24 season resulted in his removal from the central contract list for not prioritizing domestic commitments.
