The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has drastically cut the match fees of its domestic players. This has created an atmosphere of anger and resentment among the players. In Pakistan's National T20 Cup, players will now be given only 10,000 Pakistani rupees (about Rs 3100 in Indian currency) per match, which is 75% less than the previous season. Last year, players used to get Rs 40,000 per match, while in 2022 the amount was Rs 60,000. This year, the order has been issued to pay only Rs 1,500 to the reserve players, which is another major cut.
After this decision, there has been a stir in Pakistan's domestic cricketers. They are angry with this cut. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has ordered to reconsider this cut. However, earlier he himself had decided to cut 75% salary.
The move is even more shocking as the PCB, under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi, has incurred many expensive expenses, such as the upgradation of the stadium, expensive contracts of foreign coaches and appointing five mentors at huge salaries. Despite this, it is surprising to see such a huge cut in the match fees of the players.
The PCB had incurred several expenses for domestic cricket in the last few months, such as organising a domestic ODI tournament in which the prize money was increased tenfold. But now, when the National T20 Cup is scheduled to begin on March 14, the PCB has cut the players' fees. The 39 matches of this tournament will be played in Faisalabad, Lahore and Multan and the final match will be held on March 27.
