Business News: Indian Premier League (IPL) is not just a cricket tournament, but now it has become a global brand and money -earning machine. The tournament, which started in 2008, was brought with the aim of introducing cricket in a new style. But over time it has become a business model earning billions of rupees. By 2025, the IPL brand value is expected to be more than Rs 7000 crore. The biggest contribution in the brand value of the IPL comes from advertisement. In 2025, it is expected to earn Rs 6000 to 7000 crore from TV, digital platforms, team sponsorship and on-field advertisements. Along with this, many international brands are investing through IPL to enter the Indian market.

Big advertisers also included

Large names like real estate company Danubai Properties and perfume brand Latefa are now seen in IPL advertisements. Danubai has become the 'Co-Powered by Sponsor' on Star Sports, while Latefa Perfumes has become the first global retail brand to show advertisements during cricket coverage on JioCinema. Danubay is targeting NRI investors through IPL.

Media rights became the biggest source of earnings

The biggest earning of IPL is from its broadcasting rights. Media houses like Star Sports and now Viacom 18 spend thousands of crores for its TV and digital rights. The media deal of 2023-2027 was around ₹ 48,390 crore, that is, the price of each match is in crores.

Sponsorship and team value increase wildly

Each team has many sponsors - such as jersey sponsors, official drinks, digital partners etc. The BCCI also receives huge amount from the title sponsor. Teams like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders have now become companies worth thousands of crores. Their brand value has gone above $ 100 million.

Ticket sales and merchandise

Millions of fans buy tickets in every match, which makes the teams earn big. Apart from this, sales of merchandises like Jersey, Cap, T-shirt are also a source of large income. The popularity of IPL is not limited to India only, but also in countries like Australia, England, America, it has millions of fans. Due to this, brands get global exposure. IPL management is continuously bringing new innovation such as digital analytics, fantasy leagues, NFT cards and international tie-ups. In the coming time, IPL will be a multi-dollar brand, not just sports.
