England's valiant chase fell short as India managed to secure a 106-run victory in the second Test, leveling the series at 1-1 at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The visitors put up a commendable effort, led by a resilient Zak Crawley. But India's persistent efforts spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin, chipped away wickets at regular intervals.

England's pursuit of the 292-run target was full of determination as the opener, Zak Crawley contributed a top-score of 73. The chase kicked off with an aggressive approach from overnight batter Rehan Ahmed, who played freely early in the day against the spin of Axar Patel. However, India reaped rewards when Ahmed was eventually trapped LBW after a 45-run partnership.

'Bazball' backfires

Despite losing wickets, England continued to attack, with Ollie Pope making a quick start. Crawley's calculated innings featured smart shot selection and effective use of his reach, which kept England in the game. R Ashwin's introduction brought about a shift in momentum, as he found drift and loop to trouble the right-handers. Pope fell to a sharp catch by Rohit Sharma, while Ashwin deceived Joe Root in flight to claim another crucial wicket.

Crawley and Jonny Bairstow responded with a rapid 40-run partnership, but India regained control with two crucial LBW decisions in their favor. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Crawley with a skidding delivery and Jasprit Bumrah trapped Bairstow's leg before on umpire's call after a series of away-going deliveries.

Bumrah takes key wickets

As the game entered into the final session, England needed 205 more runs with four wickets in hand. Skipper Ben Stokes held the hopes of his side. Despite a cautious yet aggressive start from Stokes and Ben Foakes, a direct hit from Shreyas Iyer brought an end to Stokes' innings at 220/7. The spirited English fight continued with a 55-run stand between Tom Hartley and Foakes. However, Bumrah reintroduced into the attack by Rohit Sharma, made an immediate impact with a deceptive slower ball to dismiss Foakes. Mukesh Kumar then struck with a reverse swing, removing Shoaib Bashir, and Bumrah completed the victory by bowling Hartley, sealing India's 106-run triumph in a closely contested match.

India bounced back from the loss in Hyderabad and leveled the series in Visakhapatnam. The third match is scheduled to commence on February 15 at Rajkot. The stalwart batter Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadja is expected to join the squad.
