New Delhi: In a dramatic move, the Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), supported by local police, initiated the demolition of the N-Convention Centre in Hyderabad on Saturday. The large facility, owned by renowned actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, is located near Shilparamam in Rangareddy district. The demolition comes amidst allegations of illegal encroachment on land within the Full Tank Level (FTL) zone of Thammidikunta Lake, reported ANI.

"HYDRAA officials began the demolition of the N Convention Hall this morning. Police forces were deployed to ensure the operation proceeded smoothly, as the land falls under the FTL zone," stated Madhapur DCP in a statement to the media.

Allegations of encroachment

According to records from the North Tank Division's executive engineer, cited by NDTV, Thammidikunta Lake's FTL zone spans approximately 29.24 acres. It is alleged that the N-Convention Centre has encroached upon around 1.12 acres of this zone, with an additional 2 acres falling within the lake’s buffer zone. These allegations have fueled the bulldozer action by the authorities.

Nagarjuna responds to demolition

Reacting to the demolition, Nagarjuna took to social media platform 'X' to express his dismay. "Pained by the unlawful manner of demolition carried out in respect of the N Convention, contrary to existing stay orders and Court cases,” he wrote. He firmly denied the encroachment allegations, stating that the land in question is Patta land, with no encroachment on the tank area.

Nagarjuna further emphasized that there is a stay order in place against any previous demolition notices. He claimed that the demolition was executed wrongfully, based on misinformation, and without prior notice. “We will be seeking appropriate relief from the Court in relation to the wrongful actions carried out by the authorities," his post concluded.

Past allegations against N-Convention

The N-Convention management has long been accused of using its influence to sidestep regulatory actions from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other authorities, allegedly avoiding consequences for encroachments over the years.
